When the weather turns colder and most of your swimming is done indoors or at a community pool, you need to still have the same water safety precautions that you would in any body of water. Ensure a GOLDEN experience wherever you’re swimming when you use Goldfish Swim School’s 5 Tips for How to Stay Safe at an Indoor Pool:

1. Put Away Pool Toys

Kids may not always assess a situation fully, so it’s up to adults to address any potential hazards – including pool toys. Children and especially toddlers may be tempted to grab a pool toy while it’s in the water and may inadvertently tumble into the water. Always put away any pool toys when the pool is not being used, whether indoor or outdoor.

2. Designate an Adult “Watcher”

Heading to the pool with friends and family is a wonderful way to spend some quality time and have the kids exercise and play. It can be easy to get involved in a conversation, a book, or an electronic device and take your eyes off the water. Seconds matter when it comes to water safety, though, so always designate an adult “watcher” to keep an eye on all the kids in and around the pool. Kind of like your own personal lifeguard, have this person avoid distractions and alternate shifts among adults present. Pro tip: Know how many kids there are and count them every so often to make sure everyone is safe and happy!

3. Learn to Swim

Knowing how to swim makes it much easier for you to be in the water with your little ones, or jump in immediately to help should an emergency occur. Many adults don’t know how to swim, but there are a few things you can do to keep your kids safe — including taking an adult swim class of your own. Plus, if you know how to swim, chances are good that your kids will have this lifelong, lifesaving skill as well!

4. Have Lifesaving Devices Nearby

Water safety is a top priority at Goldfish Swim School, which is why our instructors use integrity, compassion and trust to teach water safety during each and every lesson. Part of that includes knowing what lifesaving devices are and always having them available. In addition, it’s beneficial to recognize the signs of drowning and what to do to stay safe.

5.Teach Kids How to Swim

Every kid should know how to do these 5 things in the water, and Goldfish Swim School can teach kids ages 4 months and older how to swim at our baby-friendly indoor swimming facilities!
