Not all kids jump right in with both feet for their first swim lesson – some even cry – and that’s OK. But pretty soon, they’ll love being at Goldfish Swim School!

Take it from Courtney Poloney. She started her son, Carter, with swim lessons at Goldfish Swim School just after he turned 3.

“We wanted to put him in swim lessons somewhere because we have a pool in our subdivision and when we go on vacations, we wanted him to be safe in the water,” Courtney said. “And we heard from several friends about good things about Goldfish Swim School.”

Why choose Goldfish Swim School?

Courtney went into the Goldfish Swim School in Macomb, MI and took a tour. Courtney loved that the water in the pool at Goldfish Swim School is always set at a balmy 90 degrees – and she felt that it would be a better atmosphere to learn to swim in since it always took Carter a while to get comfortable in the chillier water at their subdivision pool.

She also liked the staff, who were friendly and very thorough (all part of our regular WOW! customer service). “I just got a good vibe,” Courtney said. “The whole place looks fun.”

And so Courtney signed up Carter for swim lessons!

The first lesson

For Carter, his first lesson didn’t go very swimmingly (as can often be the case for little swimmers). But, Courtney said, “The tears didn’t last long at all!”

Carter’s teacher, Mr. Nicolas, was great, Courtney said. But, because Carter was crying so much that first lesson, another teacher (Ms. Valentina) jumped in the water to help Carter have fun and get used to being in the water to make him more comfortable. (Just another example of how all our instructors use integrity, compassion and trust to teach kids how to swim.)

“The way they handled it made it much better than if I had been in the water with him,” Courtney said.

Goodbye, tears!

By Carter’s third swim lesson, Courtney said, he had a few tears walking to the pool but then he was A-OK once he was in the water. It’s been a year, and now Carter has advanced levels, is showing some extraordinary results and loves going swimming! That’s something his mom and dad, Steve, love to celebrate.

“I’m not trying to make him an Olympic swimmer or anything,” Courtney said. “I just want him to learn the basics. And with him, it’s about his confidence, which he continually needs to work on.”

Why this mom recommends Goldfish Swim School

Goldfish Swim School is great for parents of kids, who want to be competitive swimmers, or those just looking to build lifelong skills, like Courtney wants for Carter – and she recommends Goldfish Swim School “if you want your kid to learn how to swim and be safe in the water.”

Another reason Courtney thinks Goldfish Swim School is a cut above the rest? “Every staff member is so caring to the kids, even with the communication between deck supervisor and teachers, offering tips,” Courtney said.

And Carter’s teacher, Mr. Nicolas, continues to work with Carter on his swim skills AND his confidence – which is helping Carter enjoy swimming in his community pool and mom Courtney to feel comfortable with him in the water.

“Goldfish Swim School is very swim-student centered,” Courtney said. “It’s tailored to every kid, even though they’re doing the same thing. They bend over backwards for the kids.”

It’s true: We want your kids to have a GOLDEN experience every time.

“We’ve had nothing but positive things to say about Goldfish Swim School,” Courtney said.
