Unassisted continuous Simple Freestyle with side breaths – 2 minutes
Unassisted Simple Backstroke – 2 pool widths
Unassisted Simple Breaststroke kicking with kickboard – 1 pool width
Unassisted Simple Dolphin kicking with face in – 1 pool widths
Unassisted treading water – 60+ seconds

Prerequisites

Student is able to swim Simple Freestyle 25 feet with Side Breaths
Student is able to swim Simple Backstroke 25 feet
Student is able to Streamline Kick 25 feet on their stomach and back
Student is able to Tread Water for 45 seconds independently

Lifeguard

15+ hours of virtual and in-person training through the certifying body Ellis & Associates (U.S.) or The Lifesaving Society (CAN)
Pass a skills and written exam proving mastery in aquatic rescues and basic life support, including CPR, AED, and First Aid for adults, children and infants
Dedicated to maintaining a safer environment for members and guests both in and out of the pool

Do Pro swim lessons focus more on technique or distance?

Both are important. Instructors focus on refining stroke technique while gradually increasing swimming distance so swimmers build efficiency and stamina simultaneously.

What happens if a child struggles in an advanced swim class?

Our small class sizes allow instructors to provide individualized attention. If a swimmer needs additional support, instructors can adjust drills or recommend skill-building activities to help them gain confidence and continue progressing.

Pro Swimming Lessons for Kids

Like our other classes, our Pro children’s swim class is broken down into two levels based on the extent of experience the child has. We limit these 30-minute swimming sessions to a maximum of four students per swim instructor to ensure each child gets the attention they need to become pros in the pool! Among the offerings at Goldfish, these are more advanced swim classes where students have acquired some knowledge of swim strokes and are ready to develop them further.
